whenever people are like “there is no modern version of frank sinatra bc there’s no one whose cultural impact is so vast” they’re focusing way too much on his style of music bc like…..it’s obviously beyonce? it’s kinda embarrassing when jay z and other rappers compare themselves to him meanwhile beyonce is just over there DOING it. it actually blows my mind that in 2015 with how fractionalized pop culture is, that beyonce’s audience remains as enormous and as diverse as it is and that she’s performed in so many vastly different arenas for so many different kinds of people. not to mention her longevity, which we know is going to continue for as long as she so desires as it did with frank sinatra.
musical differences notwithstanding, they genuinely strike me as two of the most comparable fixtures in pop culture of the past 100 years and there are many many parallels between the two as far as their cultural impact, their personal ambitions, their ideas about image, celebrity, privacy, etc etc etc. idk i find it all very fascinating and it bums me out that there is so much to be analyzed and compared and written about there, but sinatra biographers and fanatics are too misogynist and anti-black and stubbornly stuck in 1962 to actually realize any of this. instead they’re looking at irrelevant and directionless acts with minimal talent like michael buble who of course aren’t going to replicate sinatra’s impact because that music is no longer at the center of the culture. so anyways….this post is for the 20 people out there who love both beyonce and frank sinatra
this was a good post and i stand by it!
