my job title is communications specialist but the job is basically both taking 911 calls (and the various non emergency calls) and dispatching units to calls and running information for officers and all those things. i’m on phase 3 of training which means i’m not signed off on phones but i’ve started also learning fire radio (supposedly the easiest because they don’t talk much and only really say things like Enroute and Arrival and Transporting and In Service and In quarters but turns out it’s incredibly difficult to listen to someone screaming at you on the phone and try to think what to say to them next while someone mumbles at you over the radio and you have to process what they said and update their status on the computer)
