What’s the story behind big (plastic?) Marge Simpson?

real-faker:

Hoooo boy!  I’m glad you asked!

Okay so she’s actually from one of the standees made for the Simpsons Movie, which was basically all the characters sitting on the couch, with a spot for you to sit with them and take a photo.  It looked like this:

I worked at a movie theatre from 2005-2010, and for the most part, standees are cardboard and would just be thrown away, unless an employee claimed them by writing their name on the back.  First-come-first-serve kind of thing.  (You’d also have to get to it before a bored usher decided to javelin a fucking broom into it on a slow-day).  I had already finagled the cardboard standee (which was Homer’s hand holding up a donut), but I REALLY had my sights set on THIS bad boy.

I kept asking various managers about it whenever I got the chance, and most of them said “I’m not sure, I think we have to send it back to Fox.” which was probably a lie because I think they all wanted it, but I didn’t know enough to contest it.

So anyway I’m working a shift on the day after the standee has been removed.  It’s really funnier as a visual, and it’s a very fond memory, so I went ahead and drew it:

Long story short, we shoved her in the back of my jeep.  The whereabouts of the other family members are unknown.  I think one of the other managers might’ve taken Homer, but I couldn’t get anyone to confess to it.  It makes me a little sad that they’re all separated, but least I rescued Marge.

(If I had to take a guess, he was probably going to set her behind the guest service desk.  We weren’t sure what to do with this Silver Surfer standee either,  so he ended up manning the desk for a couple weeks.)
