How are people already preordering Fallout 76 if we don’t have any real info on it?

There’s no way it’s available for pre-order already?? Is it?

Yup already.

this is how we get shitty games, guys. because people are willing to pre-order games with 0 info just because “Fallout” is written on the cover

y’all gotta be SHITTING me

FUCKING CEASE

Well like… yeah. It’s a Fallout game. People like Fallout games. People also like a lot of other games. The great thing about preorders is you can cancel them with little to no penalty. Most game stores make you put a dollar down or something to reserve it. If you cancel at most you’re losing a small amount of money. Preordering this early just makes sure you get s copy when the game does come out. You can always cancel.

Yeah but even then, there’s reason to be cautious about them. Like, they’re gonna go out of their way to make the game look as good as possible before launch. And even with reviews, they can only go so far. Like fucking Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was a shitshow at launch, but its issues didn’t pop up until the late-game/post-game. Until then everywhere it was like “yeah shit’s great”.

Bethesda actually make a substantial amount of money off presales and this mindset allows them to keep releasing largely unfinished, not thoroughly bug tested games. The general assumption there is that the blame is on the game devs for not doing a good enough job. But given how overworked most devs are, this isn’t a fair assessment.

Bethesda, in fact, care so much about presales that for a time period (I don’t know if its still the case) they refused to give review copies of games out. Or would set the contracted date reviewers could talk about their games after the release of the game. Which gives consumers as little knowledge as possible.

Every link along this chain is reinforced by people who continue to pre-order games. It gives Bethesda certainty they’ll make money regardless of the quality of the game. It gives Bethesda the ability to restrict professional information. And it gives Bethesda the ability to limit actual development time because who cares if they still make their money.
